Description
Just a few yards from the bustle of the Rusholme Curry Mile this exclusively veggie restaurant is hidden away, with the largest vegetarian or vegan menu ever seen.
Like the Eighth Day, the Greenhouse is one of the oldest vegetarian eateries in Manchester. It proudly declares that it has been meat-free since '83.
The Greenhouse is unique in Manchester veggie scene in that it's a restaurant as opposed to a cafe, so opens in the evening as well as lunchtimes (as always check the website for opening hours; it's wise to book in advance).
It's also licensed. Along with Greens in Didsbury, it's the only such pure vegetarian/vegan establishment in Manchester to have such a distinction, discounting the vegetarian food available at The Thirsty Scholar pub, on Oxford Road.
The restaurant is located in Rusholme, near Manchester's legendary "Curry Mile", and about a mile further along from the Eighth Day cafe. Simply travel along Wilmslow Road out of town and turn right down Great Western Street. The restaurant is accessible by wheelchair, via a ramp outside, although the toilet area is not currently wheelchair friendly.
It should be noted that, despite its location in Rusholme, the Greenhouse is not a curry restaurant. In terms of food, it has probably the largest selection of vegetarian and vegan food available in Manchester. All dishes are prepared to order by Robin Knight, the owner (and MVVG member!). Everything from traditional roasts to more unique and complex dishes are available, from starters to deserts, and Robin gives the restaurant a truly personal touch. Prices are very reasonable too.
The Greenhouse also does vegan and vegetarian outside catering.
