Greens is the rarest of things: a high class, pure vegetarian restaurant. It's licensed too, and is usually staffed by Cordon Vert chefs (Cordon Vert being The Vegetarian Society's widely regarded cookery school).

The restaurant is located in one of the wealthier suburbs of south Manchester, Didsbury, and is accessible by a 30 minute bus journey from the centre of Manchester. The parking outside is reasonable but can get choked during busy periods.

The interior is light, breezy and modern, making Greens a terrific place to eat. Evening meals feel cozy, due to an intimate atmosphere and curtain across the entrance.

Most visitors agree that the quality of Greens food is superb, and the restaurant is an exemplar of the highest quality vegetarian cooking. Sample menus can be found on the restaurant's website. Vegans are less well catered for, with only one or two menu items not containing dairy and/or eggs (although some menu choices can be adapted - as always, it pays to ask).

MVVG members have in the past found the management a little unresponsive to the requirements of vegans, which is unusual although perhaps not unexpected - the restaurant was founded and is co-owned by television chef Simon Rimmer, who isn't a vegetarian, although has written extensively on the subject.

Not only is Greens licensed but it has a good white/red wine list. Disabled access is limited, due to the fact the restaurant's toilets are on a raised level requiring a single step up.

Greens is perhaps the most expensive of the vegetarian restaurants in Manchester, although its prices are in line with other restaurants in its class.

The kind of restaurant that impresses even hard core omnivores, Greens is amongst the best vegetarian restaurants in the country. It's a popular establishment amongst the south Manchester elite, so booking in advance is advisable.
